What we refuse
The verticals we won't serve.
The categories below are off the platform at signup, at call time, and on every renewal. The reasoning is fiqh-rooted, not rhetorical.
Riba banking and conventional lending
Interest-based finance is impermissible across the four schools. We won't power calls that close loans, sell credit cards, or recover interest-bearing debt.
Alcohol: production, sale, marketing
Khamr is haram. No calls for breweries, liquor stores, bars, or events whose draw is alcohol, even if the venue also serves food.
Gambling
Maysir is haram. Online casinos, sportsbooks, lotteries, and skill-game platforms with cash prize pools are refused, full stop.
Conventional insurance
Most contemporary scholars classify it as gharar combined with riba. We don't sell auto, life, or health policies that fall outside a takaful structure.
Pork producers and distributors
Calls about sourcing, processing, packaging, or selling pork are declined at the platform level. No exceptions for “just one product line.”
Adult content, dating apps, escort services
Anything that normalizes zina or pre-marital relationships is off the platform, including “Muslim dating” apps that lead to the same haram outcomes.
Tobacco and vaping
Flagged for human review. The dominant contemporary opinion treats these as harmful, with many scholars calling them haram outright. We decline by default.
Why we drew the line
Trust compounds. We'd rather turn down a check than blur a category.
Every Muslim founder reading this just learned that we'll walk away from revenue rather than quietly serve a haram-vertical customer. That is the brand we're building. That is the platform we're handing your members, your donors, your customers.
We don't treat halal-only as a marketing veneer or a footer disclaimer. The refusal is in our onboarding, in our runtime system prompt, and on this public page. Three separate gates a haram vertical has to clear before it can ever ride on Akhi. None of them open.
The trade-off is obvious to us. The lifetime trust of one masjid, one charity, one halal operator, and the three others they'll tell, is worth more than every contract we turn away. Insha'Allah, that's how the moat compounds.
How we enforce it

Halal-only isn't a tagline at akhi.ai. It's wired into signup, runtime, and how we communicate every change to the list.
Onboarding confirmation
Every signup confirms in writing that the business does not fall into the refused categories. False statements void the contract and trigger immediate platform removal.
Platform-level refusal at runtime
Akhi's system prompt declines haram-vertical campaigns at call time. Even if a customer slipped through onboarding, the agent itself refuses to make the call.
Public list. This page is canon.
No quiet edits. No exceptions for big checks. When the list changes, we publish the change with the reason, so the Ummah can hold us to it.
Edge cases
Near the line? Read this.
Some categories sit close to the boundary. We err toward caution and review them case-by-case. We'd rather have the conversation than have you guess.
Music labels
Flagged for human review. Madhab opinions vary, and we err toward caution. Nasheed labels and Islamic content producers are welcome.
Cosmetics and personal care
Case-by-case based on ingredients and marketing. Alcohol-based fragrances, gelatin, animal-derived inputs, and immodest campaigns each shift the answer.
Entertainment and film production
Case-by-case. Halal-aligned producers and family-safe content houses are welcome. Mainstream studios producing haram content are not.
Mixed-business operators
If you operate a halal line and a haram line (e.g., a grocery store with a pork aisle, a restaurant with a bar), we'll work with the halal-only operation under written terms that scope Akhi away from the rest.
